Dr. Anita has conducted over 180 trials as principal investigator or sub-investigator for industry, academic medical centers and the NIH, during her 27-year academic career. Her primary areas of research include mood disorders, psychosis and substance use disorders as well as specific therapeutic pursuits for children/adolescents and geriatric populations. As General Psychiatry Program Director for 15 years, she focused on graduate medical education and maximizing patient care and scholarship among trainees. She has also maintained clinical practice largely in ambulatory psychiatry, with patients of all ages, periodically performing inpatient, consultation-liaison, and emergency psychiatry responsibilities. Clinical research participation began during residency at the University of Florida, and she has maintained certification as a principal investigator since 2003. Currently, as Professor, Academic Vice Chair and Director of Clinical Research in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine at VTCSOM, she devotes time to mentoring, teaching, and expanding clinical research.
